Young patients at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke were treated to a special storytelling experience thanks to a new partnership between UHNM Charity and Stoke Book Festival.

The event, held in collaboration with the Children’s Outpatients team, brought the joy of books and storytelling into the hospital, offering children and their families an opportunity to enjoy a creative experience during their visit.

As part of the partnership, Stoke Book Festival commissioned a professional performer and storyteller to create and share a selection of stories for the children.

The sessions aimed to spark imagination, encourage creativity and provide a welcome distraction from hospital appointments and treatment.

The National Literacy Trust also supported the initiative by donating a selection of books, allowing every child who wanted one to take home a free book.

The event formed part of UHNM Charity’s wider arts programme, which works to bring creative activities and experiences into hospital settings to support the wellbeing of patients, families and staff.

Through partnerships with local organisations and creative professionals, the programme aims to make hospital environments more welcoming and provide opportunities for patients to engage with the arts.

The collaboration with Stoke Book Festival highlights how community partnerships can bring new experiences into healthcare settings, helping young patients enjoy moments of creativity and fun during their time in hospital.

UHNM Charity would like to thank Stoke Book Festival, the National Literacy Trust, the Children’s Outpatients team and everyone involved in making the event possible.

Their support has helped bring storytelling to young patients while demonstrating the positive impact of arts and creativity across University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.
