Local radio presenter and fundraiser Neil Washington has donated more than £5,000 to the Children’s Oncology Unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital in memory of his late mum, Sandra.

Over the last 12 months, Neil, also known as Ginjahman, has been fundraising for UHNM Charity through his Reggae Sunshine radio show, book sales and a community fundraising event.

Before hosting an evening of entertainment at Joiners Square Community Centre, Neil had already raised £2,310. Following the event, the total amount raised reached £5,123.45.

Neil recently visited UHNM Charity and the Children’s Oncology Unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital to present the cheque in memory of Sandra Washington.

In a message shared after the donation, Neil thanked everybody who supported the fundraising efforts.

He said: “We finally got to the day to hand over, in my late mum’s name, Sandra Washington’s Children’s Oncology Unit donation.

“The full charity amount is £5,123.45.

“I just wanted to say, on behalf of everybody connected to the Reggae Sunshine Show, I can’t thank you enough for your personal donations, from book sales from the autobiography to everybody who came to the charity event.

“It’s extremely emotional because it’s about my mum.

“So Reggae Sunshine family, thank you from the middle of my heart. We will put a smile on a children’s face.”

Clinical Nurse Specialists Claire Butler, Julie Eaton and Penelope Bate thanked Neil and everybody who donated.

They said: “Thank you so much for your generous donation to the Children’s Oncology Unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital in memory of your mum.

“This will make such a wonderful difference to all our families and will mean that we can continue to provide all the extra comforts that help support families through very difficult journeys.”
