A dedicated cyclist is preparing to complete an incredible 1,500-mile fundraising challenge in support of UHNM Charity, inspired by the care his friend received following a serious cycling accident.

Alan Williams has spent the year taking on a long-distance cycle ride every month to raise funds for the Acute Rehabilitation and Trauma Unit on Ward 227 at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

His fundraising efforts began after his friend John was involved in a serious cycling accident and received care from the hospital team.

Having witnessed the dedication and compassion shown to his friend during his recovery, Alan wanted to give something back to the staff who helped him.

To show his appreciation, Alan set himself the ambitious target of cycling 1,500 miles across 12 long-distance rides, completing one challenge each month.

With 11 rides already completed, Alan is now preparing for his final challenge, a 125-mile ride through the mountains and coastline of North West Wales.

The demanding route will see him tackle challenging terrain as he brings his year-long fundraising effort to a close.

Through his efforts, Alan hopes to raise funds for the Acute Rehabilitation and Trauma Unit, helping UHNM Charity support the care and recovery of patients who have experienced serious injuries.

UHNM Charity would like to thank Alan for his dedication, determination and commitment to giving back to the hospital team who supported his friend.

His fundraising is a fantastic example of how patients, families and friends can show their appreciation for the care provided by staff across University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.
