UHNM Charity funds Palliative Care Boxes to support families of end-of-life patients

Families of patients receiving end-of-life care at Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford are now receiving additional comfort and support, thanks to a new initiative funded by UHNM Charity.

The Palliative Care Team introduced the thoughtful initiative to provide additional support and care to families and loved ones during what is often a difficult and stressful time.

The Palliative Care Boxes provide emotional and practical support for relatives, enabling them to spend the precious final moments with their loved ones without worrying about what they need to do in the immediate future. Each box includes a candle, a knitted heart, forget me not seeds, a handprint kit, and information about the Palliative Care Team and how to access help and support.

Charmaine Butcher, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, said: “We are so grateful to UHNM Charity for its support in helping us to create memory boxes for the relatives of patients who are at the end of their life. These boxes have already brought comfort to families, offering a special way to hold on to treasured memories at a difficult time.

“This collaboration has been really meaningful for our team, and we look forward to building on this work together to continue supporting patients and their loved ones in the future.”

Lisa Thomson, UHNM Charity Director, said: “Supporting such a caring initiative is really important to us as we know it will offer families and loved ones some comfort at such a difficult time. It also reflects our commitment to supporting not just patients and service users, but their families as well. We're proud to fund something so meaningful.”
