The care and experience of cystic fibrosis patients is being enhanced thanks to a £10,000 donation from the Kirsty Lawton Trust.
The fund was set up in 2012 by David and Gail Lawton in memory of their daughter Kirsty who received treatment for the condition at UHNM before sadly passing away at the age of 16.
The family held a fundraising night to support the ward with new technology to keep children busy during their stay in hospital.
Gail said: “We remember Kirsty every day, and we didn’t want her to be forgotten. She always wanted to help people so it’s important we keep fundraising for UHNM Charity.
“We hold an event nearly every year with an auction and raffle where their friends and family donate the prizes.
“We enjoy doing these things and hopefully we are making Kirsty proud.”
Gail and David returned to Royal Stoke to present their cheque to the Cystic Fibrosis team.
Professor Will Carroll, UHNM Consultant Paediatrician, said: “I remember Kirsty extremely well and very fondly. It’s so great to see families coming back and remembering their family members in this way. It makes the world of difference to people with Cystic fibrosis to have money raised, as the small things we can do can make a big difference. We are incredibly grateful, and it was nice to see Kirsty’s Mum again.”
