Swinging for a Cause: IronMarket Celebrates Ten Years of Success with a Charity Golf Day

Cancer patients at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) are continuing to benefit from the fundraising efforts of a local Wealth Management company.

Newcastle-based IronMarket has donated over £8,000 to the Royal Stoke University Hospital’s Cancer Centre raised through their annual charity golf day in 2022.

The fundraising event, which took place at the JCB Golf and Country Club, was held in memory of Dave Wilkes, whose son Wes founded the company.

The donation means IronMarket, who celebrate their tenth anniversary this year and recently launched Net-worth Ntwrk powered by IronMarket bringing together Wealth, Talent & Risk Management, have now raised almost £30,000 for UHNM Charity through three separate charity golf days.

Amy Johnson, Dave’s daughter and Managing Partner at IronMarket said: “My dad had aggressive acute myeloid leukaemia and was in the care of UHNM for 12 months. We were there 24/7 and it was home for him and our family for long periods of time.”

“The staff at the Cancer Centre were amazing- warm, friendly and really informative about what was going on, we couldn’t have asked for better care. We learnt more about his condition than we thought we’d ever know. My mum still sees a lot of the staff in church and they ask how she is.”

“I’d also like to thank the staff in UHNM’s Critical Care Unit who were amazing too with dad’s end of life care.”

“Our dad was 60 when he passed and was an entrepreneur from a very young age- and a true inspiration for Wes founding IronMarket back in 2013. As the hospital played a massive part in the treatment of my dad, it was really important for us to give something back for the care given.”

The fifth annual IronMarket golf day is taking place on 9th June at the JCB Golf and Country Club, with funds raised going towards UHNM’s Cancer Centre.

Amy said: “The idea of holding a golf fundraising event came from Wes and his passion for the sport. We have a vast network of contacts, from members to business partners that come to our golf event and help us raise as much money as we can for the hospital.”

“As it’s our tenth anniversary we wanted to make this year’s event bigger and better than previous years. Our teams can expect amazing hospitality, entertainment and of course golf on a prestigious course. The infamous sausage roll at the halfway house will also be returning!”

Funds raised from the event will help UHNM Charity to improve the care and experience of the approximately 2,400 new cases the Cancer Centre treats each year.

Their amazing support over the years has made a difference to so many local people who use our services.”

Amy added: “We have to recognise and be grateful for the work that everybody does at UHNM. You think you’ll never need their care with something like cancer, however, when you do, you soon realise the hard work and incredible positive impact each individual has at the hospital.”
