Brothers Raise £4,996.59 for UHNM Charity at Chester Marathon in Memory of Their Dad

Brothers Patrick and Alex Bostock have completed the Chester Marathon in memory of their dad, Kevin, raising an outstanding £4,996.59 for the liver and gastro unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The pair took on their first ever marathon to thank the teams who cared for Kevin throughout his liver treatment and transplant.

Kevin sadly passed away in July 2023, but his sons say the care he received from staff at Royal Stoke made a lasting impact on their family.

Patrick previously said, “The teams working in the unit cared tirelessly for our father through all his liver treatments, right up to his transplant, and for the short while after. Dad is missed every day, and this feels like our opportunity to give back and say thank you to them all.”

Speaking after crossing the finish line, Alex said:

“We can say we thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s great to be here and see where the money’s going, and hopefully it makes a difference.”

He added, “And if we have raised some awareness to the disease that our father had as well, and if that helps anyone else, that’s all part of it.”

Vanessa Carr, Lead Liver Clinical Nurse Specialist at Royal Stoke University Hospital, said the fundraising will have a direct impact on patient care and staff training.

“The money that’s been donated is amazing, and it will go to great use. We’re going to look at getting a paracentesis abdomen to help with teaching doctors and nurses throughout the hospital.”

The £4,996.59 raised will now support ongoing improvements within the liver and gastro unit, helping teams continue to deliver specialist care to patients and families across the region.

Everyone at UHNM Charity congratulates Patrick and Alex on a brilliant achievement and thanks them for their hard work, commitment and support.
