The imaging department at Royal Stoke University Hospital has been given a vibrant new look, thanks to the installation of colourful wall murals aimed at creating a more welcoming and child-friendly environment for patients and families.
The murals, which feature underwater themes, animals, and bright engaging designs, are part of an initiative to reduce anxiety and improve the overall experience for young patients undergoing scans and imaging procedures.
Emily Jordan, UHNM service lead radiographer, said: “We are incredibly proud of the new murals and the impact they’re already having on children coming through our department. Medical environments can be intimidating for young patients, and this project has helped us create a space that feels safe, friendly and reassuring.
“The project was led by our advanced practice paediatric lead radiographer, Jessica Best. Jessica has been trying to improve the artwork in our department for a long time, so she has been the driving force of this project, ensuring it was completed to a high standard.
“We would like to thank UHNM charity for their support of this project, which will benefit our patients, and we know they will notice the impact of the colourful surroundings when they visit.”
Lisa Thomson, UHNM Charity Director, said: “We are delighted to support such a meaningful project. These murals are not just decorative; they’re part of a wider effort to improve the hospital experience for children and their families.
“The murals look fantastic, and I know they will make a big difference to our patients.”
