Aunt braves the shave to thank children’s cancer unit staff

A proud Auntie who watched her niece complete chemotherapy treatment at UHNM has raised almost £1,000 for UHNM Charity by shaving her head.

Toni Chilton from Audley braved the shave for the Oncology Unit at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke who provided care to Holly Evans after she was diagnosed with leukaemia.

It was a day to remember for Toni, who presented her cheque to staff on the Unit the same day Holly rang the bell to signal the end of treatment after two years.

Toni said: “I’ve been to every appointment and treatment with Holly and her and family, and witnessed first-hand the fantastic work the Children’s Oncology Unit do on a regular basis.

Seeing her lose her hair was really emotional to me, so the idea of a fundraising head shave just came to me.

“I’m very proud to have raised so much through the amazing support of family and friends. The staff do a fantastic job, going above and beyond for their patients and I cannot describe what they mean to us.”
