UHNM Charity welcomed Antony Carr to the Royal Stoke who’s raised a fantastic £400 for our Critical Care and Renal Units running the Potters ‘Arf Marathon.
Antony who’s from Bentilee completed the race to thank the UHNM staff for care given to his father Paul.
He told us: “My father attended Royal Stoke three times a week for dialysis. Having always kept myself fit, I thought running the Potters ‘Arf would be a nice thank you to everybody for looking after him and taking care of him.”
“The race last year was on the anniversary of his passing so I thought to myself its got to be done in his memory. He had brilliant treatment here that was second to none. As did my mother who was treated in Critical Care for pneumonia.”
“Training for the run was fantastic, I ran the actual route a couple of times in the build-up. On the day conditions were good, and I started the race with my friend from work. But unfortunately as I got to Beverley Drive I hit cramp. Luckily St John’s Ambulance were on hand and they got me going again.”
“I completed the course in 2 hours and 4 minutes- I was on track for around 1 hour 50 minutes without the stop, but I got around which was the main thing.”
“My advice for anybody thinking running this year’s race is to just go for it. Do your training, eat right, drink your water and keep it steady.”
Antony visited Royal Stoke with his sister Sue to present his cheque to staff from Critical Care and Renal.
